GENESIS 10:1-5
Reading: This is the account of Shem, Ham
and Japheth, Noah's sons, who themselves had sons after the flood.
The Japhethites …From these the maritime peoples spread out
into their territories by their clans within their nations, each
with its own language. (Genesis 10:1-5)

Prayer
Dear God,
Only with your blessing can a family expand and make an impact
on the world. Noah blessed his son Japheth and asked that this
family line enlarge (Genesis 9:27). We know from history that
this family line included the European nations, Russian, Greek
and Spanish. From these nations came wonderful culture, great
thought and powerful governments. Their influence continued into
the New World and spread to America. I pray that my immediate
family expands. That my sons or daughters explore new worlds and
impact people everywhere. I pray that sin and idolatry does not
send them down the path to destruction and heartache. I wish a
blessing on their journey that includes expansion into the hearts
of people in their neighborhood, community, state and world. May
they not die off, but live on and on.

GENESIS 10:6-20
Reading: The sons of Ham…the first
centers of his kingdom were Babylon… Assyria, where he built
Nineveh…Canaan was the father of … Hittites, Jebusites,
Amorites, Girgashites, Hivites… the borders of Canaan reached
from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom,
Gomorrah…These are the sons of Ham by their clans and languages,
in their territories and nations. (Genesis 10:6-20)

Prayer
Dear God,
Ham was cursed because of a disobedient act committed by him (Genesis
9:18-25). Now, this was not a one time thing, but an accumulation
of wrongs and disrespect that finally broke the camel's back.
As a result of Ham's disobedience, his descendants followed in
his father's footsteps. Ham's sons developed Assyria, Babylon,
Philistia, and Canaan, nations that opposed and attacked Israel
from the moment they entered the Promised Land to the eventual
destruction of Jerusalem. I must know that when I sin, the consequences
could extend deep into the future, affecting my family and others
for a thousand years to come. I do not want my family to follow
in my sinful footsteps, but in my faithful footsteps as I follow
you.

GENESIS 10:21-32
Reading: Shem was the ancestor of all the
sons of Eber…These are the clans of Noah's sons, according
to their lines of descent, within their nations. From these the
nations spread out over the earth after the flood. (Genesis 10:21-32)

Prayer
Dear God,
Of all the descendants of Noah, Shem's had the greatest impact
on the world, for from the family of Shem came Jesus Christ. What
greater privilege could there be than for God to use a family
line to save the world from sin? I pray that my family has this
kind of impact on the world. I hope that from my offspring come
missionaries, pastors, teachers, writers with a heart to see people
receive the message of salvation. That all their words speak volumes
of truth and their actions display what is on their heart. I pray
one day they will trace their family line back and discover me
and my house and from that they will say, "This is where
our faith came from."
