PROPOSED TITLE: Praying through Genesis
PROPOSED SUB-TITLE: A Prayer Walk through
the Bible
AUTHOR: Troy Schmidt
ONE-SENTENCE DESCRIPTION
A prayer-by-prayer walk through the first book of the Bible, designed
to deepen our understanding of the scripture through life application
and communication with God.
OVERVIEW
Praying through Genesis uses events from each chapter in the first
book of the Bible to spark thoughtful prayers back to God. A short
one paragraph prayer is written to get the readers started, then
other bullet point suggestions inspire further communication with
Him. The format is perfect for both the person on the run and
the person who wants to spend quality time in God's word.
UNIQUENESS
Readers of Praying through Genesis will:
Understand more clearly the time line and
purpose of the events of Genesis.
Apply the events of Genesis to their own lives.
because the book will:
Motivate communication with God, the author and inspiration of
the Bible.
Explain Genesis more clearly at a pace people can easily manage.
Encourage the reader to read a short passage out of the Bible.
Present Genesis not just for head knowledge, but for heart knowledge.
OVERVIEW
Praying through Genesis is divided into prayers, corresponding
to the verses of Genesis. Each chapter will have a varying number
of prayers, depending on the depth and insight of that chapter.
The reader can read one prayer a day or freely incorporate more
than one devotion into their time with God.
FORMAT AND MANUSCRIPT COMPLETION
The book is partially completed. There will be approximately 120
prayers to cover the entire book of Genesis, which could span
a time frame of one to three months.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Each section gives the reader brief facts and figures to help
them understand the context of the verse: location, time, characters
involved.
The prayer is written out to motivate the
reader to begin their time with God.
Additional topics of prayer encourage further
prayer.
Each prayer could contain a brief one-paragraph
insight into the verse. This can come from supplemental material
such as Matthew Henry or the Life Application Bible.
AUDIENCE
The audience for this book ranges from high school students to
older adults. The need to pray and to understand scripture is
universal to all ages. Busy people can get through the daily material
in five minutes or others, with more time, can stop and pray longer.
COMPETITION
Many books talk about praying and using scripture, but none actually
walk the reader prayerfully through an entire book from beginning
to end.
